On October 3, 2025, Ethos shared a guide to Ethos broker. Later that day it showed broker in use: a bounty led to evidence of a sybil attack, and Ethos announced it was slashing @yesilcrypto for 280 credibility score.
For anyone unsure what broker is for, these posts give a concrete example. Someone used it to offer a bounty for information that helped protect the network.
Ethos asks what broker does
Ethos asked two questions: how do you best leverage Ethos broker, and “wtf does it do?”
Instead of answering in the post, Ethos pointed readers to an article on X by @0xNairolf as the explainer. The Ethos post didn’t summarize the article, so the clearest picture of broker in practice came from what happened next.
A 50 USDC bounty for a sybil network
Later on October 3, @serpinxbt described broker as “now acting as a bounty service for Ethos.” They described the sequence of events:
- They posted a bounty of 50 USDC for anyone who found a sybil network abusing Ethos.
- They got an anonymous DM.
- The tip led to what they called solid evidence of a sybil attack.
“got an anon DM and found solid evidence of sybil attack. now @ethos_network is slashing that person. neat.”
A sybil network is a group of accounts run by the same person or group so they look like many independent users.
Ethos slashes @yesilcrypto
Ethos then posted, “I’m slashing @yesilcrypto on @ethos_network for 280 credibility score,” quoting @serpinxbt’s account of the bounty. Read together, the two posts connect the bounty, the anonymous tip and the slash against @yesilcrypto.
The posts don’t record the outcome of the slash.
Why it matters
A sybil network makes a handful of operators look like broad support.
The bounty shows one way to push back. By putting 50 USDC on the table, @serpinxbt gave someone a reason to come forward, and the tip arrived as an anonymous DM. The tip led to evidence, and Ethos then moved to slash.
It also answers part of Ethos’s question about how to leverage broker. In this case, it worked as a way to offer a reward for useful information about bad actors on the network.
