Ethos lowered its slash requirement to 1400, and five slashes followed

On January 22, 2026, Ethos lowered the requirement for opening a slash from 1600 to 1400. In the same update, Ethos reported five new slashes against well-known accounts in crypto.

The change matters because it widens who can raise a formal case against an account. Ethos’s own reaction suggests the community had been waiting for the chance.

What changed

Ethos is an onchain reputation network where people review and vouch for each other, and every account gets a credibility score from what others say about it. A slash is how the community raises a serious case against an account, and opening one comes with a requirement.

Before January 22, 2026, that requirement sat at 1600. Ethos lowered it to 1400, opening the tool to more people on the network.

The five new slashes

Alongside the change, Ethos listed five new slashes against these accounts:

  • @intodotspace
  • @HeyElsaAI
  • @Morningstar_VC
  • @blockstranding
  • @wardenprotocol

Ethos did not summarize the individual cases in its posts. The posts don’t record the details of each case or how any of the five slashes ended.

“You guys were holding back some angst”

Ethos’s tone was lighthearted. “Intern can’t keep up,” the team wrote, adding that users “were holding back some ANGST.”

The comment points to something worth noting about the lower requirement. Five slashes arriving together suggests there were users with concerns about specific accounts who previously couldn’t act on them.

Why it matters

A reputation network depends on people being able to record what they know about an account, including the negative. Reviews and vouches capture everyday trust; slashes are for more serious concerns. Making slashes available to more people means more of those concerns can reach the community instead of staying unspoken.

At the same time, the requirement still exists. Ethos lowered it to 1400 rather than removing it.
