On October 14, Ethos announced that Ethos Trade is now fully backed by WHUF and that its marketplace is fully permissionless. Anyone can now create a market for anyone else and take a position on that person’s reputation.
This matters because markets are no longer limited to a set chosen for you. You can open one on any account you have a view on, and trading in that market feeds into the person’s Ethos score, with a greater impact than before.
Backed by WHUF
Ethos Trade lets people speculate on someone’s reputation. As of October 14, those markets are fully backed by WHUF. You can see a live example in the market for @blknoiz06.
Anyone can open a market for anyone
The marketplace is now fully permissionless. In practice, that means:
- Anyone can create a market for anyone else
- Others can then trade on it, taking a view on that person’s future reputation
- Creating a new market costs 5 WHUF, the price Ethos set as of October 14
A low creation price and no gatekeeping mean markets can follow wherever people have opinions about someone’s credibility, not only the accounts that were already listed.
A bigger effect on Ethos scores
Ethos says markets now carry an even greater score impact than before. The way people trade on someone’s reputation doesn’t stay inside the market: it affects that person’s score on the network.
That ties Ethos Trade more closely to the rest of Ethos. Reviews and vouches already shape a credibility score from what others say about an account. Markets add another signal, one where people back their judgment of someone’s future reputation with WHUF.
At a glance
- What changed: Ethos Trade is fully backed by WHUF
- Who can create markets: anyone, for anyone else
- Cost to create a market: 5 WHUF, as of October 14
- Score impact: greater than before
- Example market: @blknoiz06
